Luck in Dead By Daylight
Luck is a stat in Dead by Daylight that affects only one thing:
UNHOOKING YOURSELF
In general when you try to unhook yourself (first hook stage only) you get three attempts to do so (assuming you attempt within 20 seconds of being hooked), each with a 4% probability of unhooking yourself. This means your probability of unhooking yourself overall is actually 11.53%*.
HOWEVER, there are two perks that can greatly increase your probabilities of unhooking yourself:
Slippery Meat Up the Ante
Common Perk Teachable Perk
Ace Visconti
Slippery Meat gives you 2%/3%/4% extra probability to unhook yourself each attempt, giving you a fair amount better probability of unhooking yourself (8% per attempt rather than 4%). The big component of Slippery Meat though is that it gives you three extra attempts. This takes your probabilities up to 39.36%!
It gets better with Up the Ante. Up the Ante gives all survivors an extra 1%/2%/3% probability at unhooking themself for every survivor left in the trial up to 9% extra. This increases your unhook probability if paired with Slippery Meat to 67.31%.
Up the Ante stacks with any other survivors running Up the Ante, meaning you can add up to 36% to your probability to unhook yourself (for a total of 44% with Slippery Meat) and an overall 96.92% probability of unhooking yourself. At this point if the whole team is running Slippery Meat and Up the Ante, there is an 88.22% probability that everyone can unhook themself with no assistance.
You can also combine this with luck offerings (the chalk offerings for yourself or the salt offerings for the team) to create even higher probabilities.
*Calculating the probability of unhooking yourself in more than one attempt:
In order to calculate the probability that you will unhook yourself in x attempts (P), we actually calculate the probability that you don’t unhook yourself. So if B is your base probability to unhook yourself then 1-B is the probability you do not unhook yourself and the probability of not unhooking yourself in x attempts is (1-B)x. We then use that to find the probability you do unhook yourself:
P = 1 - (1-B)x
